Dye Sublimation is a printing technique that allows for full color, all-over apparel prints. Your artwork is printed onto a sheet of high-release paper and transferred onto your apparel using heat and pressure. Heat converts the solid dye particles into a gas — known as sublimation — and bonds them to the polyester fibers. Unlike screen printing, the dye is absorbed by the fabric for an fantastic soft-to-the-hand feel.
Sports jersey, bike / cycling jerseys and other competitive sports are known for all over printing to showcase sponsors and colorful artwork. Dye sublimation allows for vibrant artwork covering the entire garment. Many retail brands whose designs are larger than traditional silkscreening screens also benefit from dye sublimation printing.
Other products such as hoodies, socks, arm sleeves, hats, mugs, mousepads etc can also be printed with dye sublimation. The result is vibrant full color branding on items that are traditionally printed with pad printing or silkscreen printing.
Dye sublimation usually have low setup cost therefore it works with just a few shirts to thousands of shirts.
Special dye-sublimation friendly shirts are required for the heat transfer to happen properly, and they are mostly made of polyester material. Check with promotional products distributor ahead of time to determine what shirts are available.
